Netbeans with Java works great for me even though the IDE is slow. http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/netbeans.html

As for quick tutorials... not too sure. You can try the official Java tutorials: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/

I think the best tutorial for java is http://www.W3schools.com in this site you find all things which helps a lot to the beginner please try this at least once after use this please tell me you like the site or not.
